Windows 10: I keep on getting 6 digit verification codes when a 7 digit is required!!!

I'm trying to set up a new PC and cannot log into my Microsoft account without a valid verification code. Password is correct. Old phone number is not accessible. I can't change any settings i.e. 2 step verification, security settings, etc without a seven-digit code. I keep receiving a 6-digit code every time!. How do I fix this?

Getting four digit verification code

Getting four digit verification code sent to email and text instead of 7. I am unable to get into my account when I go threw all the microsoft steps and fill out a form it sends me an email that says they can not help me because I have two Authenticator on. I need my email !

 

Suspicious 4 digit 'verification code'

I've noticed that I have received a four digit verification code from Microsoft. This is different to the 7 digit security code you get for security purposes. I haven't done anything to request a code.

I checked my recent account activity and didn't notice anything suspicious.

However, I got this code a few minutes after logging into my Xbox for the first time after factory reset. When I tried logging in in the setup screen it failed and I had to log in from the dashboard.

So could logging in to my Xbox one after a factory reset have caused this?

Why is it a 4 digit 'verification code' instead of the usual 7 digit 'security code'?

And why was I not required to enter a code anywhere?

Could this be a hack?
