Windows 10: I had windows10 at onetime recognize my external hardrive, but no more. How do I get it to...

Dear Support team,


Last week I had my external harddrive recognized for over five years, and then all of a sudden sometime last week it stopped recognizing it.


I googled it, and it said I had to reformat it; however, I got all my important information that I do not want to delete from it. How do I keep the data and get windows10 to recognize it again?

Laptop suddenly stopped recognizing the external monitor

I suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by following the steps below:

• Click on the Start button, and type “Troubleshooting” on the search bar.
• Click on “Hardware and Devices”.
• A pop-up will appear, click on the “Next” button and your hardware troubleshooting will start.

backup drive not recognized

As per the description, I understand that the external backup is not being recognized. I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and check for status.

• Type “Troubleshooting” in search box and press Enter.
• Click on “View All” option on top left pane.
• Select “Hardware and Devices” from the list and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.
