Windows 10: I get an error saying “The recycle bin on c:/ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the...

It is a completely black screen besides the error message. I did an update on windows today and it was fine. I walked away from my computer to see this message. It will not let me click on ‘yes or no’, will not let me shut down or restart my computer.

Recycle Bin on C Corrupted

I went to turn on my computer (windows 10) and the sign on screen looked weird (no picture) so I clicked where my password should go and the error message "The Recycle Bin on C:\ is corrupted Do you want to empty the recycle bin for this drive?" appeared...And
I am now frozen in this mode. I tried Ctrl Alt Enter and Ctrl Alt Del hard reboot doesn't work either. Any suggestions?

Bingo!!. I used the windows master administrator built-in account to delete the recycle bin on all drives (in my case: c; through I being sure put check in the box to do this for for all items found (in my case it found desktop.ini. in many of the recycle bin folders, and I deleted these too). I signed out and then booted into my regular administrator account When the usual error message popped up saying that the recycle bin is corrupted,,I let it run to delete the recycle bin, and what do you know!!--the problem no longer shows up!

Each drive contains a hidden Recycle Bin system folder, which are hidden and is used as a temporary storage when you delete files on that drive. Just as any other system files, it can also be corrupted and thus, giving you this error message. With that being
said, can you tell us if this F: drive that you have is a USB flash drive or a
portable hard drive? Please advise.

In the mean time, I suggest that you perform SFC scan on your external storage device and see if it helps. Here's how:

1. Type cmd on the Cortana search box, right click on the result and select
   Run as administrator.
2. Type sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=f:\ /OFFWINDIR=c:\windows

NOTE: replace c:\windows with the correct
drive letter if Windows is installed on a different drive. Hit the Enter key and wait until the scan is finished.

Another step that I can suggest is to reset the Recycle Bin only to the F: drive and see if it helps.

1. Launch cmd as an administrator.
2. Type rd /s /q F:\$Recycle.bin
3. Hit the enter key.
4. Restart your PC.
