Windows 10: I am having a problem installing Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Advanced's identity...

I have Windows 11 23H2 installed.When I install ACPHOAAcronis Cyber Protect Home Office Advanced on my laptop one of the Protection features will not install. This feature will not install on a computer if it is not located in the United States. Also, Acronis tells me that if a VPN is installed, ACPHOA will not install the identity protection feature. So, what Windows 11 settings should I check to ensure it is not configured for a country other than the U.S. or doesn't have a VPN installed.Thank you,Rick

2H22 versus Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office

I had no problem upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 but could not get the 2H22 to install and run. After a series of attempts at upgrading vs clean installs I finaly gave up and reinstalled Windows 10. I left the process for 3 months or so and tried again as an upgrade and had no problems getting the Windows 11 but my problems always were blue screens after installing all the apps. I made sure to uninstall any antivirus software including Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office that has mutated from a good backup app into an octopus of protection software in its dozen or so running background applications. I added the Malwarebytes back without a problem and, of course, had Windows own security software working. When I reinstalled Acronis I got a blue screen. I was able to uninstall it and have left it to its own devices on other peoples' systems. I did not spend time trying to figure out what was causing the problem, and I know that this is not the general experience, but Acronis forums have a number of users with similar problems. We have two Windows 11 systems in the house. The newer one came with Windows 11 and has no problem with Acronis. My own system that I built is the one that has the problem. I was able to recreate local and cloud backup using iDrive and Synology Drive Client that works with the NAS. Acronis is rewriting its apps and supposedly will let the backup software run without the protection stuff.

I am happy to be back on Windows 11. Comments to previous posts directed me to add apps incrementally so if others are struggling this would be my suggestion.

Hello, I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

Malwarebytes is the industry leading on-demand scanner but it's not technically an antivirus, it's a malware protection which is slightly different and the reason it doesn't disconnect Defender like a 3rd party antivirus does, but runs alongside of it with minimal problems. However, if you do not get regularly infected then I would not buy Malwarebytes Real Time Protection but instead just use the scanner on demand periodically or when you think you might be infected.

I would use built-in Defender which gives adequate protection, best Windows performance, least issues, and is from Microsoft who knows how to protect their OS best. We see problems with 3rd party antiviruses regularly, rarely any with Defender.

Whenever you uninstall the 3rd party antivirus, restart and run the special uninstaller tool from here: http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&am...

I would be concerned enough about the Acronis protection mess than I'd seek out it's removal tool, manually search C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (86) after taking ownership of any Acronis folders and subfolders using this handy right click shortcut : https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3841-add-ta...; then search the registry keys for any Acronis to delete:

Then type Security in Search, make sure Defender is now standing guard.
