  1. I accidentally downloaded a .exe virus file

I finally fell for an old trick - while trying to download a perfectly safe file from the internet, I mistakenly downloaded file through the internet called setup.exe and ran it. The properties of the file shows the target as "https://www.7-zip.org/a/7z2201.msi".What is obvious as a change is a number of antivirus type apps have been added onto my computer. Since the download two days ago, I get a popup from a different application prompting me to scan my computer for this or that. My strategy thus far has been for each popup to go to "add or remove programs" and uninstall said application. Is

New Virus Comes Disguised as IE7 Download

If you receive an e-mail offering a download of Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2, delete it. A new virus is spreading all over the web. The e-mail includes a convincing graphic that looks like it could really be from Microsoft, and the virus is delivered when recipients click on the included link. The e-mails carry the subject line "Internet Explorer 7 Downloads" and appear to come from admin@microsoft.com. They include a blue, Microsoft-style graphic offering a download of IE 7 beta 2. Clicking the graphic will download an executable file called IE 7.exe. The file is actually a new virus called Virus.Win32.Grum. Security experts are still trying to analyze the virus, which may affect your registry, mail contact list or steal personal information from your computer.

  3. Cannot download files with an EXE extension

    Hi BobSmith2020-

I'm Kevin B. Independent advisor and a Windows user like you. I do apologize for the inconvenience for you not able to download any .exe file using your browsers. Let me go ahead and help you sort things out.

Kindly disable your anti virus program for the mean time and see if your able to download a .exe file. If not, kindly follow this steps while the anti virus is still turned off.

Kindly reset your security settings, to do that follow this steps:

    Go to Control Panel

    - then look for internet options

    - internet properties

    - under security tab select Internet Zone then click default level.

-- Check if your able to download and install.

If its still doesn't work kindly set the security to custom level.

    Go to Control Panel

    - Internet Options

    - under security tab go to Internet.

If the Internet zone settings set to High, change it to Custom Level and change the single options " Launching applications and Unsafe Files " from Disable to Prompt (recommended).

Kindly check the restrictions as well to make sure that the problem site is not in the Restricted sites list.

Hope this will help and have a bless day!

    Thanks.

    Kevin B.
