HP Printer driver included in Microsoft update

I received this printer update as an "Optional" Microsoft update . The update is "HP - Printer - 4/22/2009 12:00:00 AM - 10.0.17119.1". I checked my printer for updates and it states my printer is up to date. HP Officejet Pro 8600 The printer is working fine.

Why has it taken 11 years to show up and is it some kind of scam. If it is not a scam, should I download it, or just leave it be? My printer is attached through a USB port rather than eprint.

Windows Update KB4022725 breaks hp network printer driver

The following steps worked for me:

    1. Remove HP printer via classic Control panel>Hardware and Sound>Right click on HP printer to remove it. OR Windows Settings> Devices>Printers and scanners>Click on HP printer in list and Remove device.

    2. Remove HP Basic printer driver via classic Control panel> Uninstall a program (Remove e-Print via Windows Settings). OR Windows settings> Apps> HP driver uninstall and HP e-Print uninstall.

    3. Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo. Type printui.exe /s and click OK opens Print Server Properties.
Click on Drivers tab. Under installed printer drivers look for HP e-Print click on it and click Remove at the bottom and then exit.

    4. Open Windows Settings or classic Control Panel and add printer. If your printer is connected to your network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet windows will find it. Select your printer and windows will install the driver.
Do not use printer driver from HP as this will re-install e-Print.

    I hope this helps someone.
PS HP sort your software out; many people are using Windows 10 and they don't need to struggle to get HP products to work!

HP Lesarjet 1100 series printer drivers

The drivers offered at the HP support link for your printer (https://support.hp.com/au-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-1100-printer-series/25470)
do not include any Windows 7 drivers (my Windows 7 system is detected as "Windows NT" -- it's possible that the driver for NT 4.0 would work, but that's not guaranteed).

On the other hand, Windows Update does have drivers for the HP 1100 up to and including Windows 10.

Thus, assuming that your problem is a driver -- which is not at all clear from your very limited description -- the best way to get the proper driver is to use Windows Update as described below.

Without knowing what your "sign of troubleshooting" means or what you mean by "ran through it but good results," I suggest completely uninstalling and reinstalling the printer as follows.

    1. Disconnect the printer from the computer.
    2. Open Devices and Printers, right-click the icon for your LaserJet 1100 and select "Remove device."
    3. Click on any other icon in the "Printers and Faxes" section of Devices and Printers and then click on the link at the top for "Print server properties."
    4. Select the "Drivers" tab, select the driver for the LaserJet 1100 (if present), and click "Remove." Remove both the driver and the driver package.
    5. Click "Add a printer" at the top of the Devices and Printers window. Select "Add a local printer."
    6. Select "Use an existing port" and leave the drop-down list set to "LPT1: (Printer Port)" then click Next
    7. On the "Install a printer driver" screen, select "HP" in the left pane.
    8. In the right pane, scroll down. If you find "HP LaserJet 1100 (MS)" select it and click Next and go to step 11.

    9. If you don't find "HP LaserJet 1100 (MS)," click "Windows Update" and wait. Wait some more; this will take some time.
    10. When the update completes, find and select "HP LaserJet 1100 (MS)" and click Next
    11. Share or don't share the printer as you like (if you do share it, give it an 8 character "Share name" with no spaces and no special characters. Click Next
    12. Set or don't set the printer as the default printer. Don't click "Print a test page" at this point (because you haven't yet connected the printer).
    13. Click Finish
    14. Connect your printer to a USB port and turn it on. It should now install automatically.
    15. If you now have 2 icons for the HP LaserJet 1100:
      • Right-click one of them and select "Printer properties." Select the "Ports" tab.
      • If the line that is checked and highlighted shows "LPT1:" as the port, click "Cancel," then right-click and select "Remove device"
      • If the line that is checked and highlighted shows "USBxxx" or "DOT4xxx" then click "Cancel" and check the other icon.
    16. In Devices and Printer, right-click the icon for the printer and select "Printer properties" and then click "Print Test Page."

Can't get my HP Printer to work on Windows 10

    Greg,

I am having the same issues with my HP3600n Color LaserJet not working after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I have followed your November 8th Post, details below:

Step 1 - Plug printer in by USB, power on printer, watch for animation in System Tray shown while searching for driver.

    • There was no animation in the system try after plugging in the USB cable and powering on the printer.

Click on it to monitor driver install. It may ask to go to Windows Update to pull in the driver.

Step 2 - Type Devices and Printers in Start Search box, open location, do you see the printer there?

    • Yes. The printer is listed.
    • Set as Default, if it won't print right click to Troubleshoot.
      • The printer responds to a print request but, instead of printing the sent job it prints out a PCL error as follows:
    PCL XL error

    Subsystem KERNEL

    Error: IllegalTag

    Operator: 0x98

    Position: 3

Step 4 - Typed "Update" in Start Search box, Check for Updates, install all including Recommended, expediting restart when requested, going back to Check for more until none are offered.

    • Received notification "Your device is up to date. Last checked: Today, 2:52 PM (it is now 2:52 PM)

Did the printer driver arrive? No.

Step 5 - Download the basic driver (if no scan) or software (if scanning needed) package for the printer from the HP Support Downloads webpage for your exact make/model. Install the software with the printer USB unplugged, wait for it to prompt to plug
    it in.

Let us know how this works. It may require a few extra steps.

    http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03515691

    • Downloaded Dot4x64.msi from HP support. Installed the software (with printer USB unplugged), plugged it in when prompted. This driver did not work. I received the same KERNEL error as above.

    • Downloaded HP_CLJ3600_64Bit_HB.exe from HP support. Installed the software (with printer USB unplugged), plugged it in when prompted. This driver did not work. I received the same KERNEL error as above.

So, at this point, I have followed all steps with no success. I can "see" the printer in Devices and Printers however, the printer ICON doesn't look like a HP3600n, it is the Windows default printer ICON. Normally when the properly drivers are installed
the ICON is customized to look like the installed device or printer.

Do you have any other suggestions that I might try?

    Thanks!

    Dave Williams
