  1. How to use chkdsk on the X: drive as it found problems but can't fix them.

HelloMy Laptop has been suffering from boot issues where it would just show a black screen after the Lenovo logo and can't boot Windows unless restarted multiple times. I just found during one of these restarts that drive X: has problems running chkdsk on it through the command prompt on the recovery menu. However, it says that it can't repair them as the drive is write-protected. I have tried using the attributes clear read-only command but to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't expect it to completely fix my boot issues but it couldn't hurt to try right? Thanks!

    :)

    chkdsk c: /F

We appreciate the response. I'm referring to Check Disk (chkdsk) utility tool. If you haven't tried yet, we suggest that you run a chkdsk by:

    • Press Windows Key + X button to bring up the power user menu.
    • In the power user menu, select the Command Prompt (Admin) option.Click Yes when you are presented with a UAC window requesting permission to launch the Command Prompt as Administrator.
    • In the new Command Prompt window, type chkdsk E: /f /r /x. Here you should replace E with your drive letter.
This option will run chkdsk to check and repair disk errors in Windows 10. The “/f” parameter tells CHKDSK to fix any errors it finds; “/r” tells it to locate the bad sectors on the drive and recover readable information; “/x” forces the drive to dismount
    before the process starts.

Keep us updated with the result.

  4. How to use chkdsk on the X: drive as it found problems but can't fix them.

    CHKDSK found errors on X:\Windows\System32

I booted to command prompt in the recovery mode and run CHKDSK and found errors on X:\Windows\System32. Then, I used the CHKDSK /F option it reported that the drive is write-protected. How do you resolve this issue?

I forgot to mention that my Windows installation file is really in drive C:\Windows. The CHKDSK found errors on the recovery drive itself which is in drive
X: I'm sorry I'm new to this. But, is it normal for the recovery drive to have errors? Actually my PC is running fine and I was just testing to see if CHKDSK would find errors in the recovery drive. I just want to fix those
errors because something tells me it's malware. SFC /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=C:\ /OFFWINDIR=C:\WINDOWS did not find any problems, same as DISM /Image:C:\ /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth which also did not find any errors.

If I boot to Windows normally there's no problem and CHKDSK, SFC, DISM will all show no errors or corruptions. Should I attempt to fix errors in the recovery drive X:?
