Windows 10: How to set default photo sorting by date, ascending in file folders

Hi,I save my pictures in file folders and like them sorted by date and in ascending order. Currently, I need to manually sort every time I open the file. What can I do to make this a default setting so I don't need to sort each time?

Sort files by date with folders on top

Until recently, when I used File Explorer, the folder list was always at the top! If I want to sort everything inside a folder by name ascending, it put the folders on top (by name ascending) then files next (by name ascending). If I want to sort everything
inside a folder by name descending, it put the folders on top (by name descending) then files next (by name descending). That way you can get to the folders easily. Perfect!

Now, however, it works normal when I sort by name ascending, but when I sort by name descending, it turns the list completely upside down! The files are on top by name descending, then the folders are on BOTTOM by name descending! I want the folders to always
come on top like they used to do.

What changed? How can I fix it?

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Do you want to just sort a folder by date modified, or have you performed a search and want to sort the results by date?

If you want to sort a folder by date in ascending order, then you just need to set the View at the top to Details, then click the date column header, so the arrow on that column header points up

If you then want to save that view and apply that view to other folders:

Click the 3 dots at the top of File Explorer and select 'Options'

On the View tab of the resulting dialog, click 'Apply to Folders' and save that setting

That will set the default view for all folders of that type.

There are 5 different folder types in Windows (Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music and General Items)

To set your view in all folders in Windows, you need to perform the steps in 1 above for one folder of each type.

You can change the default settings of your File Explorer view. If you would like to sort it by Date, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• Go to Start, type File Explorer.
• Select View located at the top of the address bar.
• Locate Sort by.
• Select Date.
• Choose between Ascending and Descending.
• Close the File Explorer and check back if the changes applied.
