Windows 10: How to restore desktop image that disappeared February 2025

I was using the same image on the lock screen and desktop. The desktop image has disappeared. I personalized the lock screen. I chose a photo. I then turned on and off, and on show the lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen. I also right-clicked on the desktop, selected personalize, changed the background color, and checked that the image I wanted was still on the Lock Screen by selecting Lock Screen under personalize. It is. Photo I selected is no longer on desktop. I tried several different images. All I get are my icons on the desktop as usual, but no photo.

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect


In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.

1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination
   
   
   
4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
5. Boot up with your new HD.

 

Desktop Disappeared After Windows 10 Update

After upgrading to windows 10, my desktop completely disappeared, sometimes it will flash for a micro second. The Desktop folder is still in my folder list and I can access it that way but prefer to have access to my desktop. I saw the other thread where
it suggested a clean boot, but this did not work. Any other suggestions?

Windows 10 System image restore.

Plenty of warts....

I remember once all most used programs disappeared from the start menu list

I restored a system image I had where they all were there = Of course I was disconnected from the internet when I restored the image and yes most used programs were listed

As soon as I connected to the internet they were gone again

Restored the image again

Didn't boot to win-10 for a month or so and they didn't disappear then so it just shows how weird win-10 can be and how cool system images can be using the right utility to create them
