Windows 10: How to Reinstall Microsoft GameInput Services?

While following a guide to fix issues with Microsoft GameInput services, I uninstalled the service and rebooted my pc. The guide said the service would automatically reinstall, this did not happen. I've followed every suggestion on how to recover it and none have worked. There is no download for Microsoft GameInput services. How do I reinstall it? How to reinstall GameInput service?

1. Use PowerShell to Reinstall:
   
   • Open PowerShell as an administrator (right-click the Start button and select "Windows PowerShell (Admin)").
     
   • Run the following commands to reinstall the GameInput service:

   • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
     
   • Click on Check for updates and install any available updates. This might include updates for the GameInput service.
     
4. Manually Download and Install GameInput:
   
   • If the above methods do not work, you might need to manually download the GameInput service files. Unfortunately, there is no direct download link available for these files. However, you can try reinstalling the Xbox app or any game that uses the GameInput service, as they might include the necessary files.
     

Regarding the Realtek microphone issue, you can try the following steps:

1. Update Realtek Drivers:
   
   • Go to the Realtek website and download the latest drivers for your audio device.

GameInput Service

When I am looking at Event Viewer, I get the below error message.
> The GameInput Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 6 time(s).

> The GameInput Service service terminated with the following error:

The compound file GameInput Service was produced with a newer version of storage.

> The GameInput Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 5 time(s).
The following corrective action will be taken in 1000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

Could some methods of fixing be suggested? and if any more information is required, please specify.

 

How to reinstall GameInput service?

The GameInput service was throwing up errors in event viewer so I followed the instructions in the following reddit thread

Reddit - Dive into anything

I deleted the files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft GameInput\x64\gameinputsvc.exe just like he said to and uninstalled the GameInput app.

I left the following GameInput files in System 32 because the guy on reddit said to (also System 32 scares me).

These are all the GameInput files I left in system 32

GameInput.dll

GameInputSvc.exe

GameInputInbox.dll

He also said only one should show up in Services after removing the files in Program Files (x86) but both still show up.

I was hoping doing all of this would resolve the error code but now it just throws up a new one.

"The GameInput Service service failed to start due to the following error:

The system cannot find the file specified."

So now I'm thinking removing the files is causing this issue and I looked into how I might reinstall these files only to find no resources on it. There were no ways I could find on how to reinstall those files and nothing on how to reinstall the app (only how to uninstall it). I've looked through countless threads and support forums and found nothing to get me started on reinstalling those files. Where can I redownload the GameInput Service app? And where can I find the files needed to replace the ones I removed thinking it would solve the issue?

Any microphone run by the Realtek drivers stopped working around the time this happened so I'm pretty sure that's related as well.

My laptop type is a "Legion Pro 5 16IRX8 - Type 82WK" if that helps at all
