    How to open files with 'Brown Box' in OneDrive?


    I have files with the 'Brown Box' in Explorer that I can't open. I have logged out and back in but they stay. How do I access these files.

    Note: The Brown box icon was designed by Onedrive and it means that in able to access the files, you have to be signed in to your organization account.

    Can't open files with a brown archive box icon on it.

    I have had the problem above and have not easily found the solution. HOWEVER I have managed to fix it! Here is how:

    The problem is the synchronisation between OneDrive and your computer (if you login to onedrive in your browser your lost files should be accessibele).

    A solution might be:
    A brown box over your Windows Desktop icons can be caused by an issue with Windows Explorer.

    To resolve the issue, restart Windows Explorer:

    1. Press Windows key + E.
    2. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL and select Task Manager.
    3. Select More details to show all the apps.
    4. On the Processes tab, under Apps, right-click on Windows Explorer.
    5. Select Restart.
    What helped me:

    1. search 'Onedrive' in your apps when you press the windows key

    2. right click >Open File Location
    3. right click on 'Open'

    >This where I got an error message that I had to login again. After I got that option in the next pop-up, it got fixen.

    >In the OneDrive location (in the left bar), where you see the photo's and documents tabs etc, in the upper-righthand corner you also should see that something is happening with OneDrive synchronizing.

    I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue, and I will try my best to assist you.

    The brown box icon overlays are generated by OneDrive and indicate you are not logged into OneDrive on your PC.

    I also recommend if you get any OneDrive synchronization issues on your device, just simply sign out and sign in again on the OneDrive. Here are the steps how.

    1. Right-click on the OneDrive icon located in the system tray area of the taskbar to open the OneDrive flyout, click on the three dots or gear icon and choose Settings.

    2. In settings, choose Account and it will show you which Microsoft account is currently signed in then choose Unlink this PC.

    3. Close OneDrive settings and manually search it on Windows search then sign in again using the same Microsoft account.
