Windows 10: How to get Windows 10 product key after running slmgr.vbs /upk ?

I was following a guide for transferring my Windows 10 license to another hard drive. They had me run slmgr.vbs /upk and are now telling me to write my product key down somewhere. The problem is that this command gave me a popup saying my product key was uninstalled. How can I get my product key now?

This Windows 10 instance was upgraded for free from Windows 7.

There are several factors that caused this issue to happen. For us you to be able to change the product key, we suggest that you follow these steps:

• Open the Command Prompt.
• Enter the following commands, and press Enter after entering each one:
  • slmgr /upk
  • slmgr.vbs /cpky
  • slmgr /ckms
  • slmgr.vbs /ckms
  • slmgr /skms localhost
• Close the Command Prompt and try to change the product key again.

Using the current device's product key on my another device.


On old PC:
Uninstall retail product key:

1. Disable secure boot(if turned on in BIOS)
2. Boot into Windows
3. Enter slmgr /upk and wait for this to complete. This will uninstall the current product key from Windows and put it into an unlicensed state.
4. Enter slmgr /cpky and wait for this to complete. This will remove the product key from the registry if it's still there.
5. Restart
6. Wait a little while and then use the retail key on the new machine.
7. Set up secure boot(recommended)

Your old machine should go back to home, or you might need to do a clean install, I'm not sure there.
