Is AHCI enabled?

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft community.

I understand your concern and will guide you in the right direction.

Windows uses AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) by default, but it may not be enabled if your BIOS wasn't set properly during installation of the operating system.

Follow the steps below to check if ACHI is enabled properly.

a. Press Windows + X.

b. Select Device manager.

c. Click the arrow next to "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" to display the list of controller drivers currently used by your system.

d. Check for an entry that contains the acronym "AHCI." If an entry exists, and there is no yellow exclamation mark or red "X" over it, then AHCI mode is properly enabled. If
you don't see an "AHCI" entry, or the only entry contains a red or yellow mark, then there's a problem and AHCI mode is not properly enabled.

Enable AHCI in Windows 8 and Windows 10 after Installation

An observation I just made to my system, after a visit to a friend who wanted help to change from IDE to AHCI mode.

As I always had an hp laptop, I was never triggered to see if AHCI was enabled, since hp, at least since 2009 (that I remember), have set the default mode to AHCI and locked the BIOS/UEFI not allowing any change.

Apparently I have AHCI 'Enabled'





So, I checked all steps of the tutorial and FYI, I post images of my registry keys.









Everything seems OK, except from Step 6.

According to the tutorial in Step 6, we need to change the StartOverride value to 0, in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorAV key.

I don’t have this key, but instead I have
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorAVC
(as seen in the following image).





Forgetting the value of the StartOverride, as it returns to 3 after reboot, I was wondering if this key difference is just in my laptop, or it’s a new thing that changed the 'iaStorAV' to 'iaStorAVC' after a feature update for all systems, in which case you might consider changing Step 6 of the tutorial.

Enabling AHCI on Windows 7 systems with AMD

the driver that comes with windows isnt really good.
the one that comes with the motherboard shows the real performance, well, thats what i have heard.
