Windows 10: How to delete photos from collections, but keep in albums

If I delete photos from my collection, they are also deleted in their album. Can you delete collection photos and keep them in an album. Takes up more storage.

Is it possible to add photos to an album, then delete them from collections?

Please be careful . . .

In the Photos App you have 3 views - Collection, folders and Albums

Collection and folders are basically just a view of you files on your hard drive in the Pictures folder

Albums are a virtual structure, they do not physically exist, they are just stored as a list, so if you delete a file from collections or albums, you are deleting the only physical copy of that file

Hi Eloise, no, do not delete the photos from Collection.

Photos will only keep one version of the photo, it will not take up any extra space on your hard drive

Think of it this way, collections is the actual image files on your hard drive

You can add these images to many albums, all the Photos app does is add a reference to those images in the albums you see, it does not create extra images on your hard drive

If you delete the image from collections, it will not be available in albums, if you delete the image from an album, it only deletes the reference to the file in collections

 

how do i move photos from my collection to an existing album?

The requirement to select and move photos from Collections to
Album is currently not available on Photos app.

You will be able to create a new Album of photos but not add to an existing album from Photo app
Collections.

To create a new Album of the selected photos, follow the steps below:

• 
  Open Photos app and click on
  Albums from the left side panel of the window.
  
• 
  Click on New album i.e. + from the top right corner of the app window.
  
• 
  Select the pictures to add to the album and click on
  Done i.e. tick mark icon located at the top right corner of the app window.
  
• 
  Click on Save option located at the top right corner of the window and check if the album is added to
  Photo app.
