    How Stop Disk Management Win10 Assigning Drive Letters


    HiMy PC has a 250GB SSD as the boot drive and I regularly back up to external USB3 drive using Macrium Backup.I also have a 320GB drive in the PC which I do a scheduled 'Disk Clone', again using Macrium.The issue I have is that after Macrium has cloned the boot drive Disk Management gives the partitions letters the cloned C: partition and the swap partitionI can go in and remove the drive letters I don't need the letters, see later for why I do this but after the partitions are dismounted and used again for cloning the drive letters come back.Is there a way or permanently disabling this fo

    help. USB drive isn't assigned a drive letter.

    Any usb flash drive I plug into my computer isn't assigned a drive letter. The physical drive shows in the "safely remove hardware" but it doesnt show up in disk management. I have tried to populate the volume thru the safely remove hardware properties window and it does pop up in the list but it doesn't stay there. This isn't a format or assign a letter problem. It's more complicated then that. Maybe one of the services needed for usb drive management was disabled? Suggestions needed. btw external usb harddrives work fine.

    Unable to assign/remove drive letters using disk-management

    Prior to Win10/1803 it was possible to unhide hidden partitions (e.g. the system disks recovery partition) using Control Panel => Administrative Tools => Computer Management => Disk management => right-click on the partition and choosing "Assign or change
    a drive letter".

    I just tried that today and all the right-click menu offered was an entry "Help" - which was of no help... How Stop Disk Management Win10 Assigning Drive Letters :(

    I then started diskpart and was able to assign and remove drive letters to that partition (and other hidden ones) at will. Why is that functionality not properly working in disk-management anymore?

    help. USB drive isn't assigned a drive letter.

    maybe your USB drive is trying to assign a drive letter that is already taken.

    goto

    start > control panel > administrative tools > computer manager > disk manager

    find your USB drive and assign is a drive letter
