Windows 10: How do I stop files from opening up in browser sharepoint, onedrive, or other and open...

This is what happens when I use the search bar at the bottom of Windows 10. This has frustrated the living daylights out of me and searching these forums I found nothing. I am answering my own question because I figured out how it works for me and I wanted to share if someone else was having the same issue.This fixes windows so files do not open in browser but in the installed default apps.As of the most recent update follow these steps to solve the problem:Search bar should be near the windows icon in the bottom left --> Click on the three dots to bring the drop down menu the dots are

Search opens local files in OneDrive folder only in browser

Hi Elias,

To resolve your concern regarding opening local files on OneDrive, follow the steps below:

• Go to
  OneDrive.com.
• Right click on the file that you want to view.
• Click on Download.
• The file will be downloaded, and would normally show up on the bottom part of your browser.
• Click the file, and it would open up using its normal default application.

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?

 

Open file location opens OneDrive in a browser

Thank you for your response! However, this is exactly what I wanted to avoid. I have quite a rich folder structure in OneDrive that I hate to navigate (I know, it's partly my fault). For instance, to get to a recently-opened file, I need to:

• Go to OneDrive
  
• Scroll 60+ folders to find the right one and open it
  
• Scroll another 30+ folders to find the right one
  

That's why I rely on the "Open File Location" functionality so much. It just takes me right to my sub-sub-sub folder where I have all my files and materials neatly stored. Also, with Office files I can first open the editor and then see recent files, but I also work with non-office tools quite a lot. Like authoring tools, sound and video editors etc., and this functionality doesn't always work great there.

That's also why it's so frustrating -- OneDrive online tries to open some external (=non-Microsoft) files in the browser, it fails to do so (unknown file format), and it downloads an unnecessary copy to a different folder. That's why I'm trying to have Open file location use File explorer as it used to.
