    How do I set up new laptop without it syncing files from my old laptop that I still have?


    For context, I have an old XPS 13 that I used for college and bought a surface pro and want to keep them completely separate.When I set up the new one, I logged in using my Microsoft account as prompted when starting up a new PC and it was fine until I opened OneNote and suddenly all of my old PC's files were downloading on my new one.I had paused the sync, unlinked my new laptop on OneDrive via the new laptop, and then ended up doing a cloud hard reset on the new laptop. Right now it is at the Windows restart screen so while I wait although this may take days to get a response LOL , my

    Yeah this is good suggestions here with your old laptop but i just want to say you that you should replace your old laptop with any new laptop by exchanging the old one and i think this is the best opinion for you ....

    I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    There is no method to copy over your installed software to a new laptop, you will need to re-install all software onto the new laptop.

    If you log into both laptops with a Microsoft Account, your settings should sync over to the new laptop and if you use OneDrive, then you files from the Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders may sync down form the cloud

    Otherwise, you will need to copy your files out to a USB drive and transfer your files using that USB drive.
