Windows 10: how do I remove a work or school account from my system/machine?

I'd like to remove a work/school account from my system but I can't. I've tried the method of going into System-Accounts-Access work/school account-Disconnect, but doesn't work with me. Instead I get 3 messages as I try this and the last one is like error message to indicate that I can't be able to remove this account. The account is Connected via Azure AD. Remove Deactivated Work Or School Email Account

I have an organizational email account that has been deactivated, current guides online say the following:

"If you need to remove an account from your PC:

1. Select Start > Settings > Accounts > Access work or school .
   
2. Select the account you wish to remove, then select Disconnect
   
   ...."
   

However, the only option presented at this section is "Manage" which forwards me to my organization's page to login. The account has since been deactivated with no way to get to the next step.
I have been getting notifications from my system that "There is a problem with a work or school account click her to fix now" but obviously can't login to remove the account from the system.
Is there a work around to remove the account without logging in?

To remove your work account from your machine. Please follow the steps below and I hope that it can help you solve the issue. Please make sure that your account has administrative rights before doing the step.

1. Click start menu then settings > Account > Access Work or School

2. In the Access Work or School option, click the account that you want to remove from the list then click disconnect

I got the same "This work or school account cannot be removed by system policy" error.
