Windows 10: How do I make file explorer ALWAYS optimize folders for "General Items" AKA turn off auto...

I very frequently work with audio files. As part of my creative process I often make new folders for different projects.One thing that annoys me to no end is when I do this and place an audio file in a new directory windows decides to be "smart" and interpret the directory as containing "music" as in published music - and changes the columns to completely meaningless variables. I never want to know the album that a SONG I AM WORKING ON is on BECAUSE IT IS NOT ON ONE. I am trying to make one and all this does is get in the way. Download folder slow to load (already set to "General Items")

Hello PF75 ,

Don here, Windows 10 Independent Adviser. Have you tried setting the "Download Properties" of the download folder into "General items"?

If not, open up your file explorer then right click on the "Downloads" icon on the left hand side of the window. Click on "Properties" and then once a window opens up navigate to the "Customize" tab. Select "General items" from the "Optimize this folder for:"
list and then click Ok. Re-open your file explorer and check to see if the Downloads folder is still loading slowly or not.

Let us know if this did not work so we could suggest other possible solutions.

 

How to optimize view of folders on Android phone?

Problem summary: Can't optimize view of folders on Android phone. Ultimate objective is in Windows Explorer to be able to see "Date", "Date created", "Date modified", and "Date taken".

Steps

1. Connect Android10 phone to Win10 laptop via USB
   
2. On Win10 laptop, open Windows Explorer
   
3. Navigate to any folder on phone
   
4. Right-click on [Folder]
   
5. Select "Properties"
   

Results

• Expected = "Customize" tab appears. Can select it, optimize folder for "Pictures", then display "Date", "Date created", "Date modified", and "Date taken".
  
• Actual = Only "General" tab appears.
  

Notes

• Windows Explorer appears to by default optimize all folders for "Music". Ex: If "Details" are selected, then visible columns correspond to "Music" folders, e.g., "Artist", "Track Number".

This issue sometimes occurs after changes were made on the computer. We suggest that you follow these steps for us to resolve this:

• Open Windows Explorer.
• Right click on the folder that you're having issue with, then click Properties.
• Click on the Customize tab.
• Under Optimize this folder for:, select
  General items.
• Put a check on Also apply this template to all subfolders.
• Click Apply and OK.
