Windows 10: How do I enable administrator permission to copy files from External Hard Disk Drive to my...

I need to copy a number of files from my External Hard Disk Drive to my PC (Desk Top)
Some files have been copied, but for the rest are not getting copied.
the message I get is "You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file.
I am the only user of my PC (Desk Top), I thus assume I am the administrator.
What do I do?

When copying files to an external hard drive I get the message:

You need permission to perform this action

You require permission from your Administrator to make changes to this folder.

I am logged on with my User ID set up as an Administrator.

Why does it demand I ask myself for permission?

Also using the try again check box still does not allow the action to complete.

Follow the Steps below and check if that helps.

As you are unable to transfer some files from an external hard drive to the computer requesting for Administrator permissions, I suggest you to follow the steps provided below to provide administrator permissions to the particular folder and check if it
helps.

• Right click on the folder and select
  Properties.
• Click on Edit button in Properties windows. Click ok to confirm UAC elevation request.
• Select user/group from permission windows or click
  Add to add other user or group.
• Now under Permission section check the rights which you want to grant i.e. check “Full Control” under the “Allow” column to assign full access rights control permissions. (Generally we add ‘Everyone’ to given permission to all
  the users on the computer).
• Edit the permission to Full Control for ‘Everyone’.
• Click OK for changes to take effect and click ok again to exit from Properties window.

Help with external hard drive

I appreciate your interest in windows 10 and also for trying the troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. I understand the inconvenience you faced. I will certainly help you with this.

I would suggest you to plug in hard drive then check in disk management you can see the drive or not.

Follow the steps to check Drive in Disk Management.

• 
  Go to the Control Panel then click on the
  Administrative Tools. .
  
• 
  Under the Administrative Tool Click on Computer Management.
  
• 
  Click on Disk Management and check the External Hard Drive.
  

Also check in BIOS whether External Hard Drive is listed or not.

For help with the BIOS settings, refer to the computer manual or contact the manufacturer.

If it doesn’t work then, I would suggest you to update BIOS for updating BIOS contact Lenovo Support.
