Windows 10: How can i reset and speed up a older Toshiba Laptop with VISTA so that i can try playing...

I was given a older Toshiba Laptop with Windows Vista on it. To try and Play the FORTNITE game on it with my Son. Who plays on a XBOX series S and my concern is... Can the Laptop play fast enough for this?... Should i factory reset it?.. Or just get rid of all of the cache/files/videos/and photos etc... To hopefully speed it up enough to play!!.. I have an older TOSHIBA Satellite A205-S5843 S/N 38189546K with the unsupported Windows Vista Home Premium that I would like to reset to factory settings. I have tried all the internet suggestions without success. Is the anyway I can reset without saving files and install a current OS?

If you Reset it, know that the Vista Windows update Servers have been shut down by Microsoft.

Either Toshiba – Press 0 (zero) at Boot to return to factory settings.

And if you do have a Manufacturer's Recovery Partition on your Hard Drive, you should be able to make your own Recovery Disks from it to reinstall the Operating System.

Look under Programs > your Computer Manufacturer's name > then their System Tools or Recovery Software Headings for them, depending how it is worded.

If you can not find any reference to it, contact the Manufacturer for advice on how to make those Recovery Disks.

You can borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD (Retail or OEM System Builders License) , that contains the files for the various Vista Editions (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) to be installed. The Product Key on your Computer / Laptop case determines which Edition is installed.

Windows 7 is no longer supported

Windows 8 is no longer supported.

Windows 8.1 will no longer be supported from Jan, 2023.

Windows 11 will not be suitable for a computer that old.

And if you clean install a newer OS there is no need to first do the factory reset as the hard drive will be wiped during a 10 install.

That leaves Windows 10, which would be done by a clean install and does not come for free.

First thing to do is to make sure that you have the correct system requirements and that your Computer Manufacturer supplies the correct Drivers for 10 for your Model Number.

If you read those Microsoft's system requirements for 10, you will find that if you only go on them you will be sadly disappointed in performance.

For reasonable performance should have at least:

2 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor.

4 gigabyte (GB) of RAM for 32-bit or 8 GB for 64-bit

500GB hard drive

DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver

Upgrade a vista laptop with new install


I have an older vaio laptop that runs vista but I it is not listed on the sony website to have been tested with 10. Is there a way to manually run the compatibility tool to see if I would have problems with installing 10 on it. I know I can't do an upgrade but thought I might have a play. Any help appreciated.
