How can I exclude certain folders of pictures from the One Drive - On this day function and...

I have a PC Computer, running Windows 10, using Microsoft Edge and an Android Phone. In One Drive - at least I think that is where it comes from. There is a function called On This Day. Apparently, it scans every file on my computer/One Drive and then shows me every photo that was taken on that day for different years. This is fun. However, there are some pictures that I do not want coming up in these results, such as medical photos, accident photos, special projects, etc. Also, some photos come up in the gallery that I do not want there either. How can I exclude some folders from the galle

  2. How to exclude certain folders for backup

I'm afraid Sayan didn't take the time to really read the question and I have the same issue.

I know how to set up folders to be backed up and I understand the directions for excluding folders. The issue is that Windows 10 doesn't seem to recognize when I've excluded folders and continues to back up music and photo files that overwhelm my hard drive.
When I browse and select a particular folder under the "Exclude Folder" option, the selected folder isn't listed.

But, if I open the advanced options and drill down to see excluded folders, I can see those I've selected to exclude. Nevertheless, those folders are included in the next backup. (Not only are they included, but every file in the folders is backed up numerous
    times.)

  3. How to exclude certain folders for backup

    Hello,

I am trying to backup certain folders such as My Documents, My Videos and My Pictures, but I don't want My Music and other things in my c:/user/mikeb/ directory like android studio files, but I want to save things that are on my D drive where my data is
stored. I moved My Documents, My Videos, My Pictures, My Music to my D drive. So I go to Settings -> Backup Options and choose the folders I want to include and exclude in backup.... but Windows doesn't listen to me, and will default to including directories
that I don't want backed up even if they are considered excluded... how can I stop Windows from selecting backup directories that aren't wanted for back up even though I'm already telling it not to back up that directory in the excludes?

I'm thinking that it just defaults to backing up the c:/user directory but I have mine setup as a d:/user directory. I just want about 6 folders backed up and it's making me backup about 10 folders. It's taking up unwanted space as my backup disk is only
so large, when Windows adds these extra folders it pushes the limits on that drive...

    Thanks for your time.

How to exclude certain folders for backup

AFAIK, this longstanding issue is still waiting to be addressed by Microsoft.

This dialog may help you with the "exclude" element of the issue but, regrettably, not with the cumulative backup element:

I had the same problem, and I solved in this way:

Control Panel -> System and Security-> File History -> Turn off

Settings -> Update & Security -> Backup -> More options -> Stop using this drive

Delete the File History folder in your external drive.

    Start using File History again.

After these steps, I can add folders to "Excluded Folders" and they remain excluded. I checked in the actual files and folders saved on the external disk, and it works. So I guess it is important to click "Stop using this drive".

    Hope this can help you.

    Hi Vincenzo

I have followed that procedure and it worked for me on the first new backup

I will now try a second backup

The second backup excluded the requested folders as specified

    On subsequent test backups:

I also had to delete the File History folder for any folder that I removed from the exclusion list using the classic dialog otherwise File History kept backing it up

I had to use the modern dialog to add a folder to File History backup

    So far, so good
