Windows 10: Hibernating instead of sleeping after windows update.

I installed the 2024-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems KB5046633 the other day and now I'm having issues. I went to use my computer and noticed the monitor was powered off. I thought it had just gone to sleep like it's supposed to, but when I jiggled the mouse nothing happened. I had to press the power button to turn the computer back on and the power button for my monitor too. I believe it was in hibernation not actually shut down because all my tabs were still there. Sleeping instead of hibernating after Creators Update

With normal version of Windows 10, when I pressed hibernate my laptop was hibernating properly.

After installing the Creators Update, I enabled hibernation from command line. But when I press hibernate at start menu, laptop is going into sleep mode. Although there is a hiberfil.sys file at C drive.

I've also noticed that, at the "Choose what the power buttons do" section of Power Options, hibernate is not listed.

I've experienced this issue with both Creators Update and Fall Creators Update.

 

Windows activates the hibernation instead of the sleep

Both the Copilot and the Chat GPT suggested that shortcut "rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,0,0" or "rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0" sends laptop to the sleep, but actually sends to the hibernation (shortcut doesn't work if hibernation is off). I need shortcut that works for the sleep.

I'm not sure if the problem is with Windows or the laptop. Sleep mode is activated normally only through the Windows start menu

• Did you get any error messages upon waking up your computer from hibernation/sleep?

• Press Windows key + W and type Troubleshooting.
• Select Troubleshooting and click on System and Security.
• Click on Power and follow the onscreen steps.

Delete the current power plan and create it again.
