[HELP] BitLocker SCREWED my Boot Partition (corrupted?)

The SSD in question has 2 partitions. I was encrypting my Boot Partition. I am totally new to BitLocker.

I chose the option of putting my key on an external flash drive, I set a password, then it asked me to restart before it begins encryption (might not go exactly like that, as I said this is new for me). After restart, it went into a Bitlocker "login" screen asking me for the password... But no matter what I typed, it wouldn't register anything, whether I hit insert or not. I rebooted.

So now it boots STRAIGHT into Startup Repair. HUH?

I start looking into possible fixes and find out about manage-bde, and its RecoveryKey/RecoveryPassword/Password parameters. None of them work. The same password I entered doesn't unlock the drive.

I grab my external SATA enclosure, I have to scour for any possible solutions online. Download M3 Bitlocker Recovery. It asks me for the password, which it also tells me is incorrect. I just need to get to the files I had on my Desktop.

What the hell can I do at this point, this is insane.

BitLocker Data Partition unlock on boot

Hi Bradford. Thanks for the response and link. I went through that but it seems to suggest that my system drive must also be BitLocker protected.

As I have written above I don't want to protect the system partition.

Here's what I would like to do :

    1) Partition new Windows 10 Pro Hard disk into C: and D:

    2) Move location of User Folders like "Documents", "Desktop", "My Pictures", "My Videos" etc to D: drive

    3) Encrypt D: drive only using BitLocker

    4) On boot, have the computer ask for BitLocker password to unlock/decrypt D: drive so that my
User Folders like Documents, Desktop are accessible on login

    5) The user name with which I will be logging in will have administrative privileges

    Is the above scenario possible?

BitLocker Data Partition unlock on boot

I am getting a laptop with Windows 10 Pro. I will be reducing the system partition and add another partition D: for data. Then i would move all user folders including Desktop to D: drive

I want to protect the D drive with BitLocker so that if laptop is stolen my data is safe. However the data drive needs to be unlocked before login as my user folders are in there else i will get an error.

Is it possible for BitLocker to ask for password to unlock D drive at boot?

I don't want to encrypt system partition not do i want to work with single partition.

    BitLocker on Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for the response and keeping the status updated.

This could be due to some corruption in the system files, please check the methods below and see if it helps:

    Method 1:

I suggest you to start the BitLocker Device Encryption service.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Press Windows key + R from the Keyboard.
    • Type services.msc and hit Enter.
    • Search for BitLocker Device Encryption service.
    • Double click on BitLocker Device Encryption service and click on
      Start button.
    • Click on the dropdown list and set the Startup type to
      Automatic.

Method 2: Please try the steps provided in the given article.

    Unlock a BitLocker-protected drive

If the issue persists, follow method 2.

    Method 3: Perform SFC scan

I would suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if that helps. The
sfc/scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. It is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore
    corrupted files.

Refer the link: Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted
    system files

Note: Link applies to Windows 10 as well.
