Windows 10: HDMI connection not working

Hello. I recently got a laptop and I have been having issues using a HDMI cord to project my monitor. My laptops runs widows 10 and doesn't have HDMI portbut has a display port. So I bought a type c HDMI connector but that isn't working as well. I tried to update the display drivers but it's up to date already. I also tried to troubleshoot hardware but I got a dialog box saying my online troubleshooting isn't supported on my device. So please guys how can I fix this?

Sound works fine only issue with me is underscan when connecting to my tv.

I plug my HDMI cable into the card, then into my TV. Those are the steps that I have to do. All the steps you list make absolutely no sense to me.
