    Hi Balahoth,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

1 - What is TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) -tpm 2.0 is a microcontroller that stores key, password, and digital certificate. Independent TPM 2.0 also supports Intel® VOLARTM technology and Intel® trusted implementation technology (Intel® TXT).

The trusted platform module or TPM is a special private chip for storing the encryption key. It acts as an endpoint security for supporting it.

    What is TPM? (microsoft.com)

2 - What is PTT: Intel® Platform Trust Technology (Intel® PTT) - Intel® Platform Trust Technology (Intel® PTT) provides independent TPM 2.0 features. Intel PTT is a platform feature for credential storage, as well as key management used by Windows 8 * and Windows® 10. Intel PTT supports BitLocker * to drive encryption and supports all Microsoft requirements applicable to firmware trusted platform modules (FTPM) 2.0.

PTT provides a function of discrete TPM 2.0. Intel PTT is the credential storage and key management platform function used by Windows 11/10.

3-PTT and TPM are different technologies, but they are complementary. They are all serving equipment security services.

How to enable TPM: Enable TPM 2.0 on your PC (microsoft.com)

What is BitLocker: BitLocker (Windows 10) - Windows security | Microsoft Docs

BitLocker needs to be turned on in Windows.

Simply, BitLocker requires TPM hardware conditions and the professional and above version of Windows. So when you didn't enable TPM, BitLocker is not available.

That is, if your computer has never opened TPM after purchase, theoretically, it will not appear to automatically add BitLocker after enabling TPM.

However, since the TPM needs to be changed in the BIOS, we cannot guarantee whether you will have problems in the process of modifying the BIOS, so we recommend that you back up your personal file before performing the operation, and prepare a Windows installation media standby .

Under normal circumstances, the TPM does not cause some major changes, you can reassure after the backup file.

You can download the Windows 11 image file here. Can be used as an upgrade or to create USB installation media.

Hope it helps you.If you have any questions, you can also reply again.

  4. HDD not appearing in Disk Management and about TPM 2.0./PTT

Reset TPM failed, resulting in slow login (have PTT not TPM)

I have a Lenovo Ideapad 710s. It has Intel PTT (Platform Trust Technology) rather than a dedicated TPM chip.

I got a Windows security center alert telling me that I needed to reset my security processor (clear TPM), so I did, clicking the "clear and restart" button. My computer rebooted, but I didn't get any prompt about clearing the TPM, and when I got to the
Windows 10 cover screen and clicked to get to the login screen, it took about 2 minutes for the login boxes to appear. It now does this every time I reset the computer. Further, the TPM security alert is still there, so the reset failed.

I have checked my bios and it's the latest version. I went into the bios to double-check that I don't have TPM, and the only related security option is one to turn PTT on or off. And when I go to tpm.msc, it verifies that this computer doesn't have TPM.

I don't really care about whether my PTT/TPM gets cleared, I just want my login screen to stop taking so long to appear. Please help!

    Thanks,

    Sarah
