Windows 10: Goodix Fingerprint Reader Stops Working Dell Inspiron 16 - Windows 11 Hibernate is the problem

The GOODIX MOC Fingerprint reader was not restarting after my laptop went into Hibernate. It took 5 days to figure this out with deleting and reinstalling the fingerprint driver. That was only a temporary fix bevause it mysteriously quit working again after every driver reinstall. I finally guessed that after Windows Hibernate, and then my laptop was used again, the fingerprint reader did not "wake up". I disabled Hibernate and that solved my problem. The finger print reader now works when my laptop has not been used for awhile because it no longer goes into Hibernate.This was one of my ma

Dell 5406 laptop fingerprint reader not working Windows 10 and 11

My laptop will not allow me to login using the fingerprint reader. I get a message similar to "Fingerprint not recognized, try a different finger"

Reloading driver works temporarily. Login will work once or twice.
Uninstalling biometric device fingerprint reader and allowing it to reinstall automatically works temporarily. Same result.

Fingerprint reader is mfg by Goodix
Driver is version 3.0.38.600

Driver cannot be rolled back.

Problem occured in Windows 10 and 11 on this laptop.

Can't roll back to Windows 10 after Windows 11 update without doing a clean install.

I'm pretty sure this is caused by a conflict with Windows Hello. I've contacted Dell tech support and after a long phone call and using their community, the only solution being offered is a clean install of Windows.

This is an aggravation, I'm able to login using my pin without any other problems. Having to do a clean Windows install seems drastic. It would take many hours to restore my apps and files and get everything set up to my needs again.

I'm seeing problems with fingerprint sign in many forums without any solutions. Seems to affect all PC brands and fingerprint reader manufacturers.

Anyone got a solution short of a clean reinstall of Windows?

Fingerprint reader stopped working

Hello,

My Lenovo 13s-IML (product number 20RR0003IX, bios version CQCN41WW) was updated to Windows 11 more than 1 year ago.

Since the update some devices (camera and fingerprint reader) started having some issues from time to time, especially after some windows update: fingerprint reader stopped working but removing the device and reinstalling it made it work again.

Couple of weeks ago there was a new Windows update, now I am here

Version 22H2
Installed on ‎06/‎10/‎2022
OS build 22621.1778
Serial number R90ZYWB9
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22642.1000.0

and the fingerprint reader stopped working.

I tried

1. updating all drivers, they are the last version listed on Lenovo wwb page about this laptop model
   
2. updating Windows, all done, no optional updates
   
3. removing the device and the driver, and reinstalling the driver (version 3.4.12210.12001 16th march 2020)
   
4. removing any fingerprint from windows hello and tried to record a new one
   
5. updating bios
   
6. resetting bios to defaults
   
7. disabling fingerprint reader in bios, rebooting and then re-enabling it
   
8. enabling Windows Policies to allow biometric access
   
9. stopping and starting Windows Biometrics service
   
10. scanning for corrupted files/drives in Windows
    

Nothing works: when I try to record a new fingerprint, when i put my finger on the sensor the Windows Hello windows tells me "your device is having trouble recognizing you", the fingerprint image flashes partially blu and back to gray many times while I am touching the fingerprint sensor.

The sensor is squicky clean and I have a twin laptop (same model, same windows version etc) with the same issue, so it is not an hardware issue.

Please, help, I log in and out billions of times a day, punching in the password every time is killing me.
