Windows 10: gamingroot file extension and xbox installation folder keep reappearing even after changing...

I had set Xbox games installation folder in Microsoft Store to specific folder in G drive. Even though I have changed it to original XboxGames folder in C drive, that specific folder and gamingroot keep appearing even after changing it back and deleting it multiple time. How can it be fixed?

The .GamingRoot and XboxGames folders are generated by Microsoft’s Xbox app on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 to identify suitable drives for game installations. Even if you don’t have the Xbox app installed, these folders can still be created by other related apps such as the 'Xbox Game Bar’.

If you’ve played games like Minecraft Bedrock Edition in the past, it’s possible that these folders were created during that time and weren’t removed properly when you uninstalled the game.

Even if you delete these folders, they might still reappear if you have games installed on your drive, as the Xbox app will recreate this folder for future game installations.

To stop these folders from being created, you could try changing the default folder (not drive) inside the Xbox app to something else. However, please note that these folders are legitimate and not harmful to your system.

How to change File type on Windows 10 - File Extension Change

Windows 10 my jpegs. open with paint. Is that normal? It was a photo and opened in paint. I want to see the page of all the file extensions to see what they are opening. Somehow my friend has changed her DIP program to opening with pngs and thy won't open at all. she needs to change them back to what they were. I have looked online anf found nothing that helps...too complicated. Could I please get a step by step 1, 2, 3 etc list to help her change her program extension to the right one. Please and thank you.

 

Reappearing files I deleted

I suggest you to follow the below steps to delete the folder and check if it's reappear.

    Open the Command prompt with admin (Windows +x and select Command prompt).
    
  • 
    In the command prompt, type the command below and press enter.
    
    NOTE: Substitute
    Full Path of Folder within quotes below with your folder's full path within quotes instead.
    
    RD /S /Q "Full Path of Folder".
    
  • 
    The folder should now be deleted.
    
  • 
    Close the command prompt.
