Windows 10: Fully Uninstall a Broken App

A bit awkward perhaps... The other day I installed a program Kid Pix 4 Deluxe from an abandonware website My Abandonware... Now the program was safe as far as I can tell, and ran as intended, but I ran into some issues in uninstalling it. In my excitement to see the Undo Guy again I ran the wizard without taking a system image beforehand, and now I'm stuck with the ghostly remnants of some of the components added to my system.In typical fashion, the uninstaller failed to fully clean out the folders and registry keys it created, but that's easy enough to clean up. Program will not fully uninstall

One possible reason why you can't uninstall this program is because it's still running. You can have it stopped first (from running) before uninstalling. See the steps below on how to do so:

• Press the Windows key and type in "task manager"
• Click on Task Manager and go to the Processes tab.
• Look for the app you want to uninstall. Right-click on it and tick on
  End task.
• After doing this so, try to uninstall the app.

Q1) If it's a built-in app, then the user can restore the app using that tutorial only if the app was uninstalled for their account and not for all users. Being able to restore an app that was uninstalled for all users using the PowerShell command is currently broken in Windows, and break all built-in apps if used. The only way to restore them then is to do a repair install.

Q2) That's correct. If a built-in app is not listed in under step 3 in OPTION TWO, then it can't and be uninstalled. Those would be apps that are used by Windows, and shouldn't be uninstalled. For example, Microsoft Edge.

Q3) I haven't tied it to know, but I would assume that to be so.

 

Mail app will not open on 10041.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
