Windows 10: Fingerprint and PIN removed after setup

Hi,Hope you are doing well.I would like to ask if you could help me with issue we are having with Windows Hello on Window 10. Fingerprint setup just gets removed after restart or after certain time passes on Laptop that uses domain accounts. It seems to be ok with local admin. This devices are for business use and we assign them to domain.We don't have Windows Hello for Business I have tested fingerprint in many steps and added exception to EDR to see where failure seems to happen.We are using on site AD that is synced with Azure. its kind of hybrid environment Fingerprint works on local admin

Thanks for the tip. For clarity if others have this issue steps to resolve were as follows:

1. Remove old PIN and finger print from sign in settings

2. From BIOS change security chip from TPM to Intel PTY

3. From bios erase fingerprint data

4. Setup new pin and fingerprint from wondows hello, it is now working!

I have the same problem. The fingerprint reader in my Dell XPS15 laptop was working fine until today, when Windows updates occurred (I now have Windows 10 build 1703).

The fingerprint reader stopped working. In an attempt to resolve this issue, I decided to re-do the "Fingerprint" set up, but this does not work. There are 2 cases:

1) If I remove my PIN, I am then able to perform "Fingerprint setup", but at the end of this process it asks me to add a PIN, but this 'Add' does not work, and I am left without a PIN and without a configured fingerprint.

2) If I add a PIN first, this works, but if I then try to do "Fingerprint setup", I am taken to a "Windows Hello setup" dialog box. I click "Get started" and I am prompted for my PIN in the "Windows Security" dialog box. I enter the correct PIN, the laptop
makes a little noise, after which I am left with the "Windows Hello setup" dialog box with just a "Cancel" button.

If this is due to a corrupted user account (as suggested above) then this must have been caused by the Windows Update. Whatever the underlying cause, it is definitely the Windows Update that is responsible for the sudden fingerprint reader failure.

Hi I have the same laptop model and problem as the original poster.

Initially I had fingerprint sign in working great. One day while in tablet mode I changed sign in method to PIN. Next time I tried to do fingerprint sign in I kept getting a "sorry, PIN is required" message.

I tried removing my fingerprint from windows hello settings and tried to set it back up again, but at this point I have the same issue as OP. That is if my PIN is set and I try to add a fingerprint then after entering my PIN the setup doesn't proceed.

If I remove my PIN and try fingerprint setup it appears to work, goes through all the steps but after recording a fingerprint and setting the PIN, it appears none of the changes are saved in settings.

I have tried reinstalling the drivers for the fingerprint scanner.

I have tried resetting scanner data from the BIOS.

I have tried manually setting group policy permissions on biometric login to enable.

I have tried creating a new profile.

I have tried running System File Checker to repair corrupted files.

The issues persists... any help greatly appreciated!
