Windows 10: File explorer keeps becoming unresponsive and stuck when trying to delete a file.

Hi so basically I bought a new laptop and a few days later I downloaded a large file from my dropbox. The folder was around 1GB. I decided I did not need the folder so tried to delete it windows warned me that it was going to permanently delete even though I wasn't in the recycling bin?.File explorer then became unresponsive and the deleting was stuck at 0% even a after waiting 10 minutes so I closed it and tried again a few times with same result.I then tried to see if I could delete the smaller files within the folder and tried to delete a 0.5GB .bin file or 0.3GB .bin file but got the sam

Cant Delete Files From Desktop

Well, ran into a weird bug with vista, for some reason i cant delete files from desktop, this normaly happens to .exe files, the ONLY fix seems to be to KILL explorer.exe, and delete the file, then restat explorer, anybody got any idea why this happens?

It's an .exe right? Explorer probably read its icon (to a cache) when it was a "small" file and now call the quits when it finds "such a big" file.

If you want to delete it, use the console after killing explorer, you can run the console from TaskManager (Application -> New Task -> cmd). You might want to try copy the file to a different location (copy, not cut) and see if explorer can handle it in the new location before deleting it.

 

App for deleting files while being used by another process...

I finally got rid of these 2 files, I ended up going into the command prompt in XP and typing in the command to delete it, just as it prompted are u sure i ended task on explorer and then accepted the delete, the files that were stuck on my desktop finally went away but thanks for your help!
