External SSD goes missing after update KB5045935

This is a very odd one. My old computer died, so I extracted the SSD complete with Windows 11 OS and put it into a Ugreen caddy with a USB output. Plugged into my dad's Dell, File Explorer could see all of the files on the SSD Windows system, my documents, etc. I then plugged it into my new computer and I could again see all of the files on the SSD. My computer then performed update KB5045935 with the SSD still connected, and from that point the SSD, let alone the contents, cannot be seen - either by my new computer or my dads. To be clear, it cannot be seen in Disk Management, alth

From Ubuntu, Installing Windows 10 on an external SSD

I've followed every post about this subject, but I feel like most breeze over details, so maybe I have a few misconceptions:

    Steps to Problem:

    1. Downloading the ISO file here: Scarica Windows 10
    2. Format external SSD to be NTFS
    3. Install ISO onto external SSD using mkusb
    4. Boot onto external SSD produces the windows 10 installation screen, but when I get past the language screen I get: "windows 10 A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or Hard Disk driver"

    Question:

    • Do I need to install windows on a bootable USB instead of the SSD? How then can I demand the USB installation installs onto the SSD and not the main hard drive (which has Ubuntu)
    • This error is usually seen for Windows 7 (missing usb3.0 drivers, but Windows10 comes with them, corrupted ISO, but I'm fairly sure the ISO is good)

I'm a bit lost as how to accomplish this. Some help in this regard would be swell. I have a laptop with Ubuntu (an internal SSD), and a blank external SSD (With the official Windows 10 ISO and an official product key), and want to get Windows on the external drive.

External SSD recognized as HDD in Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand your query related to External SSD showing as HDD when connected to the PC using USB 3.0 port. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below.

    1. Have you tried connecting the SSD to any other PC?
    2. Are you using any converter to connect the SSD through USB 3.0 port?
    3. Are you using a RAID configuration?

I have researched on your query and found that the SSD that you are using is an internal SSD drive, in this case I would suggest you to try updating the Intel Rapid Storage drivers from the

    intel website
    and see if that helps.

In addition, this issue can occur if the SSD is connected to a SATA controller that is identified as RAID (SCSI). I would suggest you to try connecting the SSD to a SATA port that uses AHCI controller such as Intel SATA controller/chipset.

Please get back to us with the detailed information to assist you further.
