Windows 10: Excel 2019 - Multiple Monitor Setup - Excel Windows Opening in Random Locations

I was upgraded to a new machine running Windows 10 and Excel 2019 at work. In the past versions of excel, each window of excel would open in the same instance. Now each window opens up in a new instance. This is fine, but for some reason each new instance opens up in a different location. For example, if I have one spreadsheet open, and open another (it doesn't matter from where, Explorer, Excel itself, email, all have the same results), it will open in any one of the four monitors I have without much explanation. This is frustrating because we use many spreadsheets at the same time, and each time I open a new one, it blocks other work flow and I have to move/resize the spreadsheet to the correct monitor.


Is there anyway to pin the location of where each window/spreadsheet of excel opens?

Can't open file excel 2010 in multiple windows

In Excel 2010, all workbooks open within a single application window. Click Arrange All in the Window group of the View tab of the ribbon for options to arrange the workbook windows.

If you want to open workbooks in separate application windows, you will have to start multiple instances of Excel:

• Start Excel and open a workbook.
• Right-click the Excel icon in the Windows taskbar and select Microsoft Excel 2010 from the context menu.
• A new instance of Excel will start in a separate window. Open a workbook in this instance.

Warning: when copying and pasting between instances of Excel , you lose some features that are available when copying and pasting between workbooks in the same instance of Excel.

Does the error pop up as soon as you click on the Excel program to open or once the Excel is opened?

Try the steps below and check if it helps:

Step 1:

Try to open Excel in safe mode and check if it opens:

· Hold Windows key + R.

· Copy and paste, or type the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter:

Excel /safe

Note: There is space between Excel and/

If the issue does not occur in Excel safe, then try to disable add-ins associated with Excel 2013 and check the result.

· Click on File menu, Options and then Add-ins.

· Click on Go button besides Manage: Com-in Add.

· Check if there are add-ins listed, clear the checkbox to disable them.

Step 2:

If the above step fails, try the step below:

Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility > uncheck all the boxes, click Ok and check if it helps.

To access Excel (.exe), open the following location:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\Excel.exe

Or

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\Excel.exe

Try to open Excel and check if it opens.
