Windows 10: Error file: \Boot\BCD Error code: 0xc0000098 after attempted repair to Windows 10

A few days ago my PC (Acer Aspire x3950 upgraded to Windows 10) started a disk repair, reason unknown. After this the screen went black and was like that for some hours. I switched the PC off and back on again. Now it boots to a blue recovery screen stating “your PC/Device needs to be repaired with the error file: \Boot\BCD Error code: 0xc0000098. I still had the Windows ISO on a bootable USB previously created when I had problems so booted the PC to the USB and tried to do a repair. The same blue screen with the error occured.


Managed to access a working PC earlier and created a fresh Windows 10 ISO on the USB. Booted the PC to it, selected repair and the same blue screen with the error code appeared. Now the PC will only boot to this blue screen with or without the USB.


Any thoughts on what could be causing this and how to resolve?

Hi,

The the 0xc0000098 error can appear due to a corrupted BCD (Boot Configuration Data) file. This can be due to a change in the hardware. There is also a possibility that Windows files or the hard drive was damaged on some cases. In this case, we suggest to boot
from windows 10 installation disc and kindly follow the steps provided by
Teemo Tang on this
link.

Recovery tool for \BCD ERROR CODE:0xc0000098

I have a HP Pavilion and since upgrading to win10 during Boot it freezes and I get the message FILE: \BCD with a ERROR CODE:0xc0000098 and it says I need a recovery tool, at that screen i hit esc. then enter and it boots up and runs perfect. how do I get
the recovery tool and fix the BCD file?
