Windows 10: Epson CX6600 Printer Driver

I have an Epson CX6600 printer - I know it's old but it works fine. It was running happily in Windows 10 on my 9 year old Desktop.I have installed an SSD to replace the existing 1TB hard drive, and the cloned copy although mostly working had some windows 10 errors that windows was unable to repair, so I have resorted to a clean windows installation 21H2 Version 10.0.19044 Build 19044.Everything is really quick and I managed to reinstall my Office 2016 OK. However the printer is not installing correctly.The Epson site says that the driver is included in Win 10, and having spent 30min on their

Okay here's a workaround that worked. (I'm not technically minded but, hey, it's working)

Plug in the cx6600

Bring up windows menu then, SETTINGS and finally DEVICES (you'll see a useless USB printer without driver)

But at the top you have option by a "+" square so you can add a printer or scanner. Follow the list and for arguments sake pick com2 and choose epson stylus cx6600 for driver - and you'll have a working printer

BUT it may not work with test page and not recognise the USB useless printer is a cx6600 so then you have to go back to DEVICES and at the bottom choose from RELATED SETTINGS "Device manager"

About two thirds down the list you'll see printers, click on the > arrow to show your epson cx 6600 (M)

Right click the epson cx 6600 (M) update driver software, choose to search automatically for driver updates and you'll be given a choice of 2 drivers (the more up to date one didn't work for me but the second choice did and strangely now when I search for
futher updates it gives me 3 choices, but I have a working printer and I'm not going to update it again just yet)

Well, I updated driver and suddenly the useless usb printer got recognised as epson cx6600 (copy1) so I deleted the other printer from the SETTINGS, DEVICES list and I now have a working printer.

I'm wondering now if I had to manually add the epson cx 6600 driver in the first place or wether I should have gone straight to Device Manager and it would have been there anyway? I dunno, let me know how it goes for you.

Mmmm, only thing else I can think off is trying Windows Update, otherwise I too am clueless, LOL. I just had a look on the Epson site and they didn't even list a driver for mine under W7, but it worked in W7 when I tried it, even had the epson control panel. Well, until there was a sickening sound of broken plastic and it went west, but thats another story, LOL.

Can you test the printer on another PC by any chance?
