Windows 10: E drive disappeared??? I have a cd tray on my tower but does not seem to be functioning

I have a cd disk drive on my tower, but when I put the disk in, nothing happens, in file explorer it does not show an E drive to click on, I upgraded my HHD drive to an SSD drive a couple of years ago, does that have anything to do with it? how do I fix this? I'm trying to install adobe acrobat from a disk installation and when I put the disk in and close the tray, nothing happens. It is an older version but I don't see an E drive in file explorer to click on to make it run. I tried a different disk and still nothing happens.

All drives on my tower have disappeared other than C:

Drive E: or F: has previously recognized the insertion of a camera card and would then import photos. This afternoon I inserted the card, and nothing happened. I looked at whatever I could of the system configuration, and it showed a drive E: and inserting
the card seemed to induce some action (only suggested by the flashing light on the tower). But still nothing. I tried uninstalling the most recent Microsoft update, but that nothing either.

But now even the drive E; no longer shows up in the "This PC" list.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

CD/DVD drive (E will not open, it is detected

I suggest you to update the drivers for CD/DVD drive by following the steps below and check if the issue persists.

• Press Windows key + R and select Device Manager from the list.
• Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
• Right click on the driver and select update driver software.
• Follow the on-screen prompts and to update the driver.

CD tray will not open

Short of buying a new laptop, is there a way to fix this problem?

You have several options:

• Straighten a paper clip, then push it into the small hole in the CD tray drawer. This will open the tray.
• Create a shortcut like this one:
  nircmdc.exe cdrom open F:. NirCmd is freely downloadable.
• Purchase a new CD tray from the distributor. They are easy to replace.
• Replace the laptop.
