Windows 10: DVD drive was working under Win7, completely disappeared after inst 10

My DVD drive worked fine up to the time Windows 10 was installed, then became invisible! Luckily my Dell desktop had two DVD drives, so I do still have one operable DVD. Haven't a clue, as an elderly home user, how to resurrect my missing one. I think there may be more people with the problem, who just don't know where to look/what to do.

 

Further to unreconised DVD, I wouldn't dare start dismantling anything, and am petrified that if I start meddling with registry etc that I could lose the one working DVD. Agh!

 

Had the same problem after upgrading from Windows 7, Optical drive just vanished!
I disconnected my blu ray player's sata cable from the motherboard and booted up the PC and then closed it down.
I then reattached the sata cable to a different sata header and rebooted.
The Player was now visible in the device manager and played DVDs OK.
Also played a Blu ray disc using Arcsoft Media Theatre, so quite pleased I didn't have to do anything too technical.*Smile

 

Initially when I upgraded to Win10, my DVD drive was not listed under the Device Manager. As suggested on this site I added the line:

reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

I also removed the "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" entries from the Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

The DVD drive is now listed showing the correct drive in Devise Manager and under the "Devices an drives" when I click "This PC" from the desktop. It also reads and plays discs correctly, so appears to be working fine.

However, despite deselecting the "Hide empty drives" under Folder options the DVD drive is not listed under "This PC" in Explorer even when a disk is loaded to the DVD - the only way I can access the contents is by clicking the icon under "Devises and drivers".

Does anybody know why the drive icon is not displaying under "This PC" in Explorer?
