Download Speed on PC's Much Slower Compared to Laptop

My girlfriend and I recently got new Wifi and decided to pay the extra penny to get the best out of our internet. We went with Virgin Media and got the new Hub 5 router with a speed cap of 512Mbps. Initially we tested the speeds on my laptop with 'Ookla Speedtest' and I was able to hit around 500Mbps - 590Mbps, however when we both tried our main PC's we would barely reach 70Mbps.... I was using wired ethernet through a TP-Link adapter and she was using a wireless TP-link PCIE card, but neither of us could get the speeds that we hoped for. We tried downloading a game on steam on each of the co

  2. Download speed slower than upload speed

My Windows 10 desktop has slower download speeds (10Mbps) compared to upload speeds (30Mbps). On other devices connecting to the same router, I can get download speeds of 90+MBps on our 100/40 plan.

This is true whether I connect with ethernet or wifi.

I have changed the Windows update settings that limit how much bandwidth is used for downloading updates.

I have changed the NetworkThrottlingIndex registry setting to ffffff.

Is there some other Windows setting I can find and change, to improve this?

    Thanks in advance!

We tried downloading a game on steam on each of the computers to see what it was like and the download speed would start small and climb to around 14MB/s, and then slowly start to decrease until it was downloading in bytes.... I also tried directly connecting the PC to the router through a single wire and the outcome was exactly the same...

Since then we have tried buying a more up to date wired ethernet adapter, 2 USB wireless adapters and a new wireless PCIE card and still nothing changed. I began to think that maybe it was our hardware and to be more specific, our motherboards as we both have the B450-f from Asus. So with that in mind (and wanting to upgrade my motherboard anyway) I decided to see if upgrading my motherboard would at least improve my issue. Nope. Upgrading the motherboard didn't help at all.... The new PCIE card that we tried doesn't actually have a website to get drivers for it, so I installed the latest Intel WIFI drivers but that hasn't really helped. I am however getting a warning beside PCI Encryption/Decryption Controller but when trying to find a driver for it, it's just a dead end and now I'm lost....

I've tried new hardware, updating drivers and now a fresh install of windows on a brand new m.2 and still no improvement..... If someone could help me out that would be amazing. Thank you in advance!

  4. Download Speed on PC's Much Slower Compared to Laptop

    slower download speed onmy laptop

Update on Toshiba laptop speed tests:

Direct connection to the modem: 94.6mbps

Direct connection to the router: 94.3mbps

Ethernet connection through d-link switch: 93.4mbps

WiFi 2G network 4 feet from router: 46.1mbps

HP desktop PC speed test on same 2G network: 249.9mbps

All tests run using Spectrum speed test procedure.

The laptop has a Qualcomm Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller. All the configuration items are selected for this adapter except the
Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol is not
    used.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get the higher speeds short of replacing the adapter.

    Thanks
