Windows 10: Don't sort files in Downloads folder by date. How can I sort them by type?

Hello, Silly question, sorry: In Windows 11, in the C:\Users\main_user\Downloads When I do a *.* search to display everything, the files are displayed by date as shown in the screenshot below "Today" "Yesterday" and not globally by type all pdf files together, all jpg files together.... This would be easier to handle. Which setting did I forget to activate? ThanksBonus question:When I search *.pdfnothing appears :why?

Sort by date added to folder

Hi there, thanks for your question.

In File Explorer, all sorting options can be viewed by following these steps:

- Open the folder and right click inside of it, not on a file.

- Go to Sort by > More.

This brings up a list of all possibilities of what to sort by. It doesn't look like there's an options for "date added to folder", but one of the other Date options may help, such as Date Created. You could create a copy of the file and move it in, so that
the date created matches the date added to the folder?

sort files by date, but with all folders at top?

In W10 I had the ability to sort explorer views with all folders at the top, and then all files sorted by descending date.

I don't recall the magic settings for this, but cannot seem to reproduce it in W11.

Any way?

One suggestion was:

1) Search *

2) Search options = current folder

3) view Details

This gives all folders first sorted by date, then all files sorted by date - just what I want, but I don't see how to save this view - it is only for the current window.

 

folder sorting by date modified

might seem stupid but i just got a new laptop and ran into this problem when trying to set up.

one of the things i need is to sort files in the 'downloads' folder by date modified, so i can find the ones most recently downloaded at the top. However, i found this was not the case when i pressed the 'date modified'column. It is sort by date, but primarily
by 'type' first. Which means files are first grouped by type THEN by date modified.

please how do i fix this so it disregards the type and sort purely by date modified???
