Windows 10: DISM & SFC /Scannow Can't Complete, Troubleshooting is Hung Up on Checking for Pending...

After noticing one specific game on Steam won't launch and testing out several different thing with Steam and the game to no avail, someone suggested to me that I might have a failing hard drive. The DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Checkhealth scan completes saying "No component store corruption detected." DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth stops at 88.9%, and /Restorehealth stops at 55.1% Both of them say Error: 605 "The specified buffer contains ill-formed data." The sfc /scannow verification phase stops at 25% with a message saying "Windows resource Protection could not perform the reque

SFC scannow not working but verify only is working

there is no problem in chkdsk I've checked When I select command prompt and sfc scannow from f8 and repair.. it shows that a reboot is required for pending repair and pending renames folder in winsxs is full of files.. what should I do??

 

Can't get SFC and DISM to work anymore on Win10

Ok, can someone help me out because this crap is starting to piss me off. There was once a time when you could simply run SFC and DISM to check Windows files integrity and if there were any problems found with the local files, Windows repaired it automatically. The reason why I want to run this is because I'm getting stupendously huge amount of errors and warnings in Event Viewer, but I don't want to run refresh because it'll mess up tons of apps.

Commands I used:
sfc /scannow
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Fast forward few years and we now have glorious Windows 10. Trying to run the same tools, they find errors but stubbornly refuse to fix ANYTHING. What's the god damn point of it then?

Sfc finds issues but can't repair them and DISM constantly bitches how it can't find the source. All this used to work directly in Windows 7, but in Win 10, nothing. This was one of the best features to get OS back in good state and they go and ruin it. Because Microsoft!

Nothing worked. And they keep mentioning install.wim where my Windows image downloaded from Microsoft itself! only carries install.esd which I can't seem to use with anything.

I've also tried this tool:

Which again wants .wim file and refuses to work with esd.

DNSAPI.dll is a Windows DLL file. DLL is the abbreviation for
Dynamic Link Library. DLL files are needed by programs or web browser extensions, because they contain program code, data, and resources.
DNSAPI.dll is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

I suggest you to try running SFC scan again and check if the scan gets stuck at 73%. If it happens, I suggest you to perform
DISM scan by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

Windows corruption errors may prevent Windows updates and service packs from installing. For example, an update might not install if a system file is damaged. The
DISM scan or System Update Readiness tool may help you to fix some Windows corruption errors.

Step 1: Open an Administrator command prompt
window by

  Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
  Command Prompt (Admin) option.

  Click on Yes and continue. Provide administrator password if prompted.
  
• 
  Check if it says Administrator: Command Prompt at the top of the command prompt window.
  

Step 2: Type the following commands in the
CMD Prompt:

Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

After completing DISM scan, I suggest you to perform
SFC scan on the computer and check if the issue is resolved.
