Windows 10: Desktop shortcuts not working

Have researched and tried various possibilities without success to resolve the problem.Windows 10.Have a fair number of shortcuts on my desktop.A few are now not working.Specifically when I pick on a particular shortcut now opens a new Google Tab where a few shortcuts are now displayed.These shortcuts do work.However in certain cases having been redirected to the new Google Tab there is not a shortcut relative to the shortcut which has sent me to the new Google Tab.Very frustrating as in certain cases I am unable to ascertain the original URL and therefore cannot create a new shortcut.I would

Desktop Shortcut Icons

The desktop shortcut created for a specific website should bear the website's actual logo. With what you've experienced, there could be something wrong with how the shortcut was created.

If you've created the shortcut by selecting Create shortcut, then we suggest that you try the other way, that is by dragging the website icon that appears in the address bar to your desktop. Follow these steps:

• Using Internet Explorer, access a website.
• Once the website opens, you will see its icon in the address bar.
• Click and drag the icon on your desktop.

The website shortcut bearing its actual logo should now be saved on your desktop.

Desktop Shortcut Icons

I tried using Edge that comes with the computer and I can see the logo you are talking about. When I try to drag it to the desktop you can see that I have it but as soon as I drop it the window opens rather than putting the shortcut icon on the desktop.

 

Hotmail desktop shortcut

In order for you to make a desktop shortcut to your Hotmail account you may follow the steps below:

1. Right-click on an empty space on your desktop, select New.
2. Select Shortcut.
3. Type the web address in the empty field provided.
4. After creating a new shortcut, a window will appear asking you for the location of the shortcut, type in
   www.hotmail.com.
5. Name the shortcut you just created, name this anything you like (ex. Hotmail or Hotmail Login.)
6. Click Finish.
7. Double-click on the shortcut to check if it is working.
