Windows 10: Dell display resolution stuck at 1024x768, but only when it's the only display

Discus and support Dell display resolution stuck at 1024x768, but only when it's the only display in Windows 10 Software and Apps to solve the problem; I updated with the latest Windows update, and not sure if it's related or not, but now my Dell 27" monitor is stuck on 1024x768.     Dell display resolution stuck at 1024x768, but only when it's the only display


    I updated with the latest Windows update, and not sure if it's related or not, but now my Dell 27" monitor is stuck on 1024x768. The other resolutions are not grayed out, i can pick one and get the "keep current selection" popup, but nothing changes.The weird thing is that if i Duplicate or Extend the montitors from my laptop screen, everything works fine and I get 4k resolution. But not for the monitor alone.What should I look at?

    I use 1280x800 resolution on my computer. Every time there is an update, windows 10, it

    changes to 1024x768. The ONLY other choice in the list is 800x600. In the past all I

    needed to do was to restart the computer and my 1280x800 resolution would come back, along with the list of about 12 other display resolutions. Re-starting the computer no longer works. How do I get my 1280x800 and keep it ???

    Thats a great tutorial.

    I wonder what if one has none of these options listed? I have Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD upto 1274MB DMVT ( if this is the graphics card), and none of these options show up. Instead I see 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' under display adapters in device manager and Generic PnP Monitor. Stuck at 1024x768 resolution. I tried updating drivers without success.

    If this matters, I upgraded on Windows 7 home premium, and previous display resolution was 1366x768.

    Many thanks if anyone has a solution (or I should make a clean install?)

    Good to see you in Microsoft Community.

    There are several ways to set monitor resolution:

    This is usually set here:

    Settings - System - Display - Click on Display 1 or 2 - Change resolution below

    If it cannot be changed, used this method:

    Settings - System - Display - Advanced Display Settings - Select Display - Display Adapter Properties for Display - List All Modes - Select 1024x768 and Apply

    This fixes the display's resolution at 1024x768.
