Windows 10: Deleting .TMP files from the C:\Windows\system32\spool\printers folder

We OFTEN come across times when we have to clear a print job and find a TON of .tmp files in the Windows spooler printers folder. Stopping the spooler service does not release these files so most often they cannot be deleted.


After downloading and running Process Explorer we were able to find that these .tmp files are locked by the printfilterpipelinesvc.exe file. Using Process Explorer we are able to restart the printfilterpipelinesvc service and THEN delete these files. But that requires us to download and run the Process Explorer app for every computer we have to do this on.


Is there a way to just restart the printfilterpipelinesvc without having to install and run Process Explorer which is a GREAT tool, btw. We see that it's a service lanuched by svchost but there's not much we can find on using this to restart the process we'd ultimately like to create a batch file or something we can use.

.TMP File Stuck in Printers Folder After Every job - Halts Printing

1. For each print job there are two spool files generated by the Windows spooler. One file with the .SHD extension for job settings, and one with the .SPL extension for the drawing commands.
   
   Using notepad ..
   
   @Echo off
   net stop spooler
   cd\
   cd \windows\system32\spool\printers
   del *.tmp
   net start spooler
   exit
   
   Save as a c:\windows\clrspool.cmd
   
   Setup a task schedule that runs the cmd sometime in the early morning when nobody will be printing.
   
   

 

Cant delete the PDF folders from C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS

Hi,

each time i print the document prints correctly, but then gets stuck in a queue. When i try to delete it it hangs.

So each time i have to go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all the files - then reset the printer spooler. Doing this each time i want to print a document takes ages!

I have been told to delete all folders from C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS, but i cant seem to delete the PDF folders.

So..

1) how do i delete these (it say's they're still in use)

2) why does the printer get stuck each time? I've installed it correctly with the driver from the disc included.

Can someone help me with this issue?

Windows 10; After Each Prt Job, .TMP File Left in Printers Folder; Can't Delete, Error in Printfilterpipelinesvc.exe

I'm working on a computer on which, after every print job, 3 files remain in the C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers folder. 2 can be deleted without issue. The 3rd, a .tmp file throws an error when I try to delete it. Nothing else can be printed until the
.tmp file is deleted.

Only way I've found to delete the file is to stop the print spooler, delete the file, re-start the spooler. Soon as another print job is sent, problem recurs. I've found information that this .exe is for spooling of .xml files. Haven't found much about others
having this problem. There's a little info that malware disguises itself as printfilterpipelinesvc.exe, but I can't find anything real substantial. I would appreciate information helping solve this problem. Thanks!
