Windows 10: Cumulative Update KB5008212 will not install

I have a Dell laptop that I will be getting rid of and need to wipe clean the hard drive. I cannot use the DVD drive as Windows is not able to read the CD-RW Disc, so I cannot download any disk erasing software. Since I purchased another laptop in Sept, I have not used the Dell laptop; hence, no updates had been installed. Now, in order to for me to try to fix the DVD drive issue, I need to run updates; otherwise, I can do nothing.The latest cumulative update, KB5008212 is holding everything up to where I cannot do anything. It took most of the afternoon, into the evening to download. Now

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) will not install

Anyone else having problems getting the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) installed? This update has been failing for me & doing a failed to update after downloading & reboot, then rebooting & removing the update.

V 10.0 build 10240

 

Can't install Cumulative Updates for v1909

I was having a different error than you, but still could not get any updates to work without failing after download - whether through Windows Update or downloading from the Catalog and doing it locally. After trying many people's lists of how to reset Windows Update, I finally did the Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade Installation & Upgrade by Shawn Brink. Other than going in and turning off Defender and the Firewall just in case to speed things up when it was "Getting Ready" (this step took about 2 hours for me), this worked flawlessly. I went from a busted 19041.264, to a repaired 19041.84. I was then able to go into Windows Update, and about five updates installed perfectly including the May and June cumulative updates. Just a suggestion if you run out of ideas, I had!

 

I MANUALLY installed Cumulative Update KB3185614 SUCCESSFULLY but Windows continues to try to install SAME update

There may be some corrupted files in the update even if it was successfully installed. Because of this, Windows prompts you to reinstall the it.

To resolve the issue, we suggest uninstalling the update. Please follow the steps below:

• Open Control Panel and click on Programs.
• In the Programs tab, select View installed updates under
  Programs and Features. You will be directed to the Uninstall an update page.
  
• From the list of updates, right-click on Cumulative Update KB3185614 and select
  uninstall.

Windows will eventually reinstall this update since it will be missing.

If the issue will persist, you may run the Windows Update Troubleshooter tool. This tool automatically fixes problems with Windows Update.
