Windows 10: Corrupt system persists after several installations of Windows 10

Hello and thanks for reading I will try to keep this brief without cutting detail.
I reinstalled windows because I was having issues with booting into windows, it had something to do with the fact that I had two Windows installations at one point.
I put Windows 10 on a USB and installed that. Had some issues with my activation key, called Microsoft and everything got figured out.
Later that day I go to open the Start Menu and it doesn't do anything, I restart, it comes back but it's all screwed up. First it's transparent then it's solid but none of the tiles are working. It also seems that none of the windows apps are working.



I go into settings and find that a bunch of the things are screwy






Also the pin page has the text and picture all black but only after the first startup
I google the problem, run sfc /scannow get that there are problems that it can't fix.

Thus far I've reinstalled at least 4 times. The problems persist.

Things I've tried:
-dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and all the other commands like this oen
-http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ndows-8-a.html
- SFC /scannow tells me that there is corruption that it can't fix but also that it's repairable
Please help me I'm not sure what to do anymore.

Windows 10 Upgrade Failed 2X

All of the points you raised are valid. I have come to the conclusion after many tests and failed suggestions that the operating system is severely corrupted. That means complete reinstall of Windows 7 or clean install of 10.

That is still to be decided.

Hello, Killerhipo and welcome to the forums. When you run the sfc scan this is how it should be done.

Please right click on the start icon and select Command prompt administrator, give admin permissions and copy/paste this into the window that opens and press enter sfc /scannow . If you decide to type it in, please notice the space between the sfc and the /. We want it to say no integrity violations were found. If it says there where corrupt files that could not be repaired, please reboot and run it again. You may have to run it 3 times with reboots in between each time.

I believe you said you have the USB Installation files. If the sfc scan does not work, insert the USB drive and tell me the drive letter assigned to it. Also, please look in the Sources folder and tell me whether you have an install.wim or an install.esd.

I've done this before and it had little effect but for you I tried again... it took allot more than 3 scans and restarts, I just continued to do them again and again, I restart and restart maybe ~10 time. On time its running the scan and I just get a blue screen with the message PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, then the computer restarts and I didn't believe it but everything was fixed!!! I've run the scan again and I keep getting the corrupt files were fixed message, and I've continued to run the scans and restart, but I am content with everything working finally!

The dreaded BSOD " PFN_LIST_CORRUPT Parameters " has a number with it that points to the source of the problem such as a bad drive? Bad ram? The MSDN page there is mainly for program developers but points to the error as some driver trying to access a system reserved memory address.

The Disk Check tool is another option to run to see if the drive is having a problem or simply loaded with disk errors. If you are using the same primary partition that's been on the drive for some time like since the pc was new it may be experiencing some partition table information corrupt where you may have to nuke the drive entirely for a brand new primary or scan the drive for wear as well as test the memory you have if the code is hardware.

Besides the chart on the MSDN page another 3rd party source that might help is seen at What does the Blue Screen Error Mean? Note the blog is from 2013 where 8 and 8.1 are referred to there.

 

We can try to fix the rest if you would like to try. Have you completely shut down and started up instead of restart? I have an Intel Asus board, but I doubt they work a whole lot different than the AMD ones, other than the chipset. Mine will not completely install or load something sometimes with just a restart. Sometimes a complete shut down and startup is required.
