Control panel,...devices, shows multiple greyed out icons for my Zoneripper. they are indicated as not connected. Can I remove them, without affecting the one that is connected which I want ? How the multiple icons got there in the first place, I dont know ! I just need to be sure I dont lose the one I want !I would be grateful for help

If you change it to small icons just once then it should retain that setting as its default.

The Registry change you mention was suggested by @RickC in

And using this shortcut to open Control panel should also do the trick.

Control Panel Icons in Win10

I would like the default presentation of Control Panel to show small icons. A post a few years ago suggested modifying the Registry in (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVerson\Explorer\Control Panel--the "StartupPage" DWORD from 0 to 1. I tried that with no result. I also tried changing the "AllItemsIconView" DWORD from 0 to 1 and that also did nothing. Another suggestion was merely to double click on the icon. That also did not do it. Is there a switch somewhere to change the default presentation from Category to Small icons (or even Large Icons)?

Step 1: Opening Control Panel in Windows 10.

Step 2: Access Control Panel in Windows 10 from desktop.

Step 3: Launch Control Panel using search.

  Open Start menu or screen.

  In the search box, enter Control Panel and then press Enter key to open the same.
  

Note: You can quickly access the search with the help of Windows + C hotkey.

Step 4: Create Control Panel shortcut on desktop.

• Right-click on desktop, click New, and then click Shortcut.
• In Type the location of the item box, type the following path.

• Click Next button.
• In the Type a name for this shortcut box, type Control Panel, and click Finish button. You can now double-click on the Control Panel icon on the desktop to quickly launch the same.

Step 5: Pin Control Panel to Start or taskbar.

  In the Start search box, type Control Panel.
  
• 
  When you see search results, right-click on Control Panel entry and then click Pin to Start to pin it to the Start menu or screen.
  

Note: Clicking Pin to taskbar will pin the Control Panel to taskbar.
