  1. Code-Signed .exe File Lists my Town as the Publisher

Hello! I coded a program over the past few months that I am looking to make publicly available. I purchased a code signing certificate from SSL.com, and all was well! However, when I signed my .exe file, the publisher name came up as my name, state, and hometown, rather than just my name. I contacted SSL for support, and they tried opening the program on several different computers on their end, in Windows 10, which resulted in only listing my name, which is the desired outcome. We deduced that the issue involving the program listing my state and town was only a Windows 11 issue, as the issue

  2. When does the Operating system verify the Authenticode Signatures for signed EXEs and signed DLLs?

When PE Files (exes, dlls etc.) are code signed using signtool, they can be verified to check if they have been authored by trusted publishers. In which scenarios does the Operating system actually verify signed EXEs and DLLs?

    1. Are signatures of EXEs verified every time they are run?
    2. If an EXE has a dynamically linked DLL, is the DLL's signature verified when the EXE is run?
    3. If the EXE dynamically loads a DLL using LoadLibrary, is the DLL's signature verified when the EXE is run?
    4. When an EXE requires elevated privilege (UAC), is the signature of the EXE and the DLL dependencies verified as well? (1-3)

  3. How do I unblock a publisher in windows 10?

I have gone through the steps as suggested above BUT interestingly don't see an publisher listed under the "Untrusted Publishers" but still get the same error box as shared above.

    I wonder why?

    indexing Publisher files

    Hi,

What do you mean when you say 'how can I change Publisher to the other filter ?'

Run the Search and Indexing Troubleshooter.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with search and indexing of files and folders. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check the status of the issue. Refer these steps:

    • Press Windows key + X, select
      Control panel.

    • Change the view by option on the top right to
      Large icons.

    • Click on troubleshooting and click on the
view all option on the left panel.

    • Run the Search and Indexing troubleshooter.

    • Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

    Thank you.
