Windows 10: Change Icons Text Size in Windows 10

I have Win 10: 1703 (OS Build 15063.413)

Up until this install, I could change font size with R-click on Desktop, Display Settings, 'advanced display settings', and then 'advanced sizing of text and other items'.

Or use Control Panel - Display.

Both are no longer available.

So, many thanks for the reg files - after a re-boot all is almost as I wanted.

Even before the latest update, I had issues - mainly when I set the ICON font size to 20, in Windows Explorer with either detail or list view. Increasing the font size for icons did NOT increase the line depth for the text, resulting in the bottom of the text in file explorer being truncated, and the lines being jammed together, making it hard to read.

I spent hours with 5 different MS support people, and got nowhere.

Is there anyway of adjusting line depth for Windows Explorer to fit larger fonts ?

Just as a FYI - I get a similar issue, but not at all related in Regedit - increasing the font size here does not make the panel where the current registry key name is displayed - so it effectively disappears.

Hi, I looked at that file 'ExplorerFrame.dll' but could not see anything to help me.

Further, there is now a free tool 'changesize.exe' from WinTools to change all the fonts that were available in the older version of Win 10.

BUT, there seems to be no way to change the actual SYSTEM font - changing all the font sizes with changesize.exe or with the reg files, leaves the basic system font as Segoe UI 9 - and this appears in many places and many third party programs use this also. Even Edge, if I right mouse click, uses the size 9 font, and I have bumped everything else up to 15.

The Win 10 menu font also stays small .

Any ideas ?

That works ok, but does not go far enough. The Menu font option changes the font size of horizontal menus below title bars, but has no effect on the Start Menu.

And there is no way to modify the main System font at all that I have been able to find.

You could use the method in the tutorial below to change the default system font, but it doesn't change its size unless the font itself is bigger by default.

I've just upgraded to a new Laptop with Windows 10 build 15063.413 - I tried the option2 reg downloads for both the Title Bar and Icons - to font size 12 - but nothing has improved in either File Exporter or Word (2010 Office). I really miss the facility to easily change the text size as I'm getting old too - 70+ and I'd rather have a larger size. I don't understand why Windows has taken it away. I used the setting on my previous machine.

If you like, try a large size, or you could change the DPI scaling level to make everything appear larger.

That helps a lot (changed from reccomended 125% to 150%) But as posted somewhere else, the text is now slightly fuzzy.

Possibly you need to adjust what's called "Clear Type". Take a look here, follow thru with what looks best for you, and see if it helps de-fuzz/de-blur the type.

Go to your Cortana search box lower left and type the word clear. The top choice should be Adjust ClearType Text. Run that. It will start you here. Make sure the box is checked and proceed. You see your monitor discovered, then proceed thru 5 screens of what looks best to your eyes. Apply and see if it helps.

 

The Clear Type was OK. HOwever, I used MS Access (2010 Office) today and the text I was typing into the form was very very 'thin'. I really need a way to change that. What Acccess displayed in its boilerplate was also similarly 'weedy'

 

Hi, Jules! All that is Office products, and like Taskmanager and a few other MS things, have their own little world of fonts and type. Wish I could help you. I don't use Office anything, so I would only be guessing.

Maybe if you put that question, about Office fonts and type, up in this thread Software and Apps - Windows 10 Forums , some with Office experience may see it and have an answer. Sorry, best I can do. TC
