Windows 10: Can't pin documents to start menu

I'm sorry if someone has asked this already. I can't find an answer easily.I am very frustrated at seeming to be unable to pin documents to the start menu or Quick Access like I could with Windows 10. I want to be able to get to my favourite documents within two clicks, basically instantly, without having to pin a folder and open that up, without having to hope they stay in my recent files. Why has this feature been removed and what replaces it? I have tried Googling an answer to this and it only mentions being able to pin apps to the taskbar or menus. I want a document, not an app, and I can'

Pinned excel/word start menu shortcuts not working

In Windows 10, I found the most practical way to quick access certain documents is via context menu.

Quickest is if you pin Word (not a document) to Taskbar, and by right click on it you have a list of documents. You can pin any document in list - it will appear on the top and stay there.

It is the same for Start menu. Right click on Word tile it will give you context menu with recent files

Is there any way to pin a document (not a file) to the start menu? Why is this prohibited in both windows 8.1 and 10? It seems like such a simple thing. Why has this been overlooked?
