Windows 10: Can't get rid of red microphone icon on desktop

Hello,I have this annoying red overlay on my Windows 11 desktop that I can't get rid of.All I did was click on the microphone key on my new Logitech Pop keyboard which fired up the Voice Access software. The one that opens with Win+H.Ever since I am greeted with this red overlay that isn't clickable and also a microphone icon in the tray area that does nothing when clicked on. Also the microphone from my Logitech Streamcam can no longer be used, looks like it's in constant use somehow. Rebooting does nothing, stupid overlay shows up again after login.I tried turning off all of the voice access

what is this red microphone icon, and how do I get rid of it?

I am sure I will feel very stupid when this is answered.

I have a red microphone icon appear floating an top of the desktop screen, and it also appears in the Notification area.

If I try to left or right click in the notification area, nothing happens. If I turn off "microphone" in the notification area settings - nothing changes. If I click on the red microphone icon, my mouse is actually clicking on what ever is immediately behind it (eg close browser window).

I have had this icon appear before and I would like to know definitively what it is, and help appreciated.

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

 

Can't get microphone icon onto desktop

This issue could have occurred due to these reasons:

1. Incorrect Microphone settings.

2. Corrupt driver.

Try the steps listed here:

Method 1:

I suggest you to run Recording Audio troubleshooter which will find and fix common issue.

• Press Windows Logo keys from the keyboard.
• Type “Troubleshooting” in the search bar and press “Enter”.
• In the “Troubleshooting” Window, click on “View All” on the left pane.
• Click on “Recording Audio”.
• Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.
• Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

Method 2:

Make sure that the microphone that you are using is not disabled and is set as default in the computer. Follow these steps to check this:

• Right-click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.
• Now, right-click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.
• Select “Microphone” and click on “Properties” and make sure that the
  microphone is enabled.
• You may also check if the microphone that you are using is
  set as default.

Method 3:

If the issue persists, I suggest you to download and install latest audio driver from the computer manufacturer website and check if it helps.
